Plants of the Month

Physocarpus opulifolius 'Magic Ball'

A real "magic ball" of colour transformation as the foliage changes from vibrant orange in spring to yellow-green in summer and then stunning red and maroon in autumn. This shrub will lose its leaves in the winter months, then fresh foliage will appear again in the spring. Pink flower buds open into clusters of white blooms.

Plant Care

Keep well watered until firmly established. Plant into any good garden soil, avoiding wet areas. Feed in spring with a good general fertiliser. Hardy. Trim to size and shape in spring.

Height/Width

Water thoroughly, or stand pot in a container of water for half an hour before planting. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball. Remove the pot, place the plant in the hole so that the root ball is level with the surrounding ground and refill, firming if necessary. Keep well watered in dry weather.
