RHS Plants for Pollinators

Salvia guaranitica 'Black & Bloom'

This 'anise-scented sage' blooms earlier, has larger flowers, thick aromatic leaves and strong dark stems, holding clusters of deep blue flowers. Good plant for patio containers. This plant dies down in winter to regrow in spring.

Plant Care

Keep well watered until firmly established. Plant into any good garden soil, avoiding wet areas. Prune down in spring once young growths can be seen. May need some protection in severe winter weather.

Height/Width

Water thoroughly, or stand pot in a container of water for half an hour before planting. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball. Remove the pot, place the plant in the hole so that the root ball is level with the surrounding ground and refill, firming if necessary. Keep well watered in dry weather. Feed in spring with a good, general fertiliser.
