RHS Plants for Pollinators

Rheum x hybridum 'Pink Champagne'

This early cropping variety can be harvested from around April into mid-summer. It has dark pink, fleshy, edible stalks that are great in pies, stewed or added with ice cream. Warning: The leaves of rhubarb are toxic.

Plant Care

Plant in deep, moist, humus-rich soils. Keep watered in dry summers. Mulch in spring, but avoid covering the crown.

Planting Instructions

Water thoroughly, or stand pot in a container of water for half an hour before planting. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball. Remove the pot, place the plant in the hole so that the root ball is level with the surrounding ground and refill, firming if necessary. Keep well watered in dry weather. Feed in spring with a good, general fertiliser.
