Ribes uva-crispa 'Hinnonmaki Yellow'

This superb shrub is worthy of space in any garden, producing the earliest soft fruits of the year. This traditional variety produces greenish-yellow berries that are sweet and aromatic when ripe with a tangy outer skin. This gooseberry was bred to have excellent resistance to disease and its vigorous but compact growth makes it ideal if space is limited. Perfect for putting in tarts, pies, crumbles and for jam making.

Plant Care

Plant in any well drained soil. Prune in winter to create an open, upright bush. Keep well watered in hot, sunny spells.

Water thoroughly, or stand pot in a container of water for half an hour before planting. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball. Remove the pot, place the plant in the hole so that the root ball is level with the surrounding ground and refill, firming if necessary. Keep well watered in dry weather. Feed in spring with a good, general fertiliser.
