Clematis 'Niobe' (EL)
Large sepals, which resemble petals, velvety textured, deep ruby-red, bold central yellow anthers. Flowers produced intermittently from early to late summer. Foliage mid-green, turns yellow before falling. Use for walls, trellis, pillars, archways, pergolas and to scramble through large shrubs and trees.
Frost hardy. Flowers on previous year's growth. Pruning group 2. Suitable on a wide range of soils, except extremely dry.
Water thoroughly, or stand pot in a container of water for half an hour before planting. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball. Remove the pot, place the plant in the hole so that the root ball is level with the surrounding ground and refill, firming if necessary. Keep well watered in dry weather. Feed in spring with a good, general fertiliser.
