Wisteria sinensis
The Chinese Wisteria is one of the showiest climbers, suitable for training over a wall or into a large tree. Fragrant, lilac-mauve flowers carried in racemes up to 3cm (12in) long, appear just before the fresh green leaves unfurl. Allow it to grow unchecked until the plant fills the space required. Thereafter, shorten the leafy, whip like shoots in August and then hard prune them back to 2-4 buds in late winter to encourage abundant flowering.
Plant Care
Keep well watered until firmly established. Plant into any good garden soil, avoiding wet areas. Feed in spring with a good general fertiliser.
