Prunus lusitanica 'Angustifolia'
This variety of 'Portugese Laurel' is a neat, compact evergreen with narrow leaves on purple stems. Small white flowers appear in June, followed by small red/purple fruits in autumn. A slow growing, conical shrub or dense hedge that is low maintenance. Trim to size and shape in spring.
Not fussy about soil types plant in any average garden soil, avoiding wet areas. Feed with a good general fertiliser in spring.
Water thoroughly, or stand pot in a container of water for half an hour before planting. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball. Remove the pot, place the plant in the hole so that the root ball is level with the surrounding ground and refill, firming if necessary. Keep well watered in dry weather.
