Plants of the Month

Crocosmia Collection
Commonly called 'Montbretia', we have a range of Crocosmias, including 'Emberglow', 'George Davison', 'Lucifer', 'Meteore' and 'Red King'. For a really colourful display in late summer and autumn, few plants can surpass these! Vigorous, clump-forming perennials, with tall, erect, ribbed or pleated leaves, which are a good foil for earlier flowering plants in the border and form a large, healthy, bright-green sheaf from late spring onwards. In summer, long, arching stems appear above the foliage, bearing beautiful funnel shaped flowers. The bobbly seeds heads are excellent as a dried flower.
Plant Care
Keep well watered until firmly established. Plant into any average garden soil, avoiding wet areas. These plants die down in winter to re-grow each spring.

Height/Width
Water thoroughly, or stand pot in a container of water for half an hour before planting. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball. Remove the pot, place the plant in the hole so that the root ball is level with the surrounding ground and refill, firming if necessary. Keep well watered in dry weather. Feed in spring with a good, general fertiliser.
